Nano-Needling Benefits From Using Dr. Pen Nano-Needling Pens

  • Zero Downtime - Resume Your Day Immediately!
  • Pain-Free (No Numbing Cream Needed)
  • Weekly Treatments for Consistent Results
  • Safe with Your Favorite Active Skincare Ingredients

Does Nano-Needling Hurt?

Nano-needling is a completely pain-free procedure. Unlike microneedling, nano-needling uses ultra-fine silicone-tipped cones that only penetrate the very top layer of the skin (the stratum corneum), making it gentle enough for all skin types without the need for numbing cream. Most users describe the sensation as a mild vibration, and there is no discomfort during or after the treatment.

Nano-Needling Downtime

Nano-needling has zero downtime. Since the treatment only affects the stratum corneum, there is no visible damage or redness, and you can immediately resume your daily activities. It's an ideal option for those looking for a skin refresh without the need for recovery time.

Nano-Needling Aftercare

After nano-needling, your skin is primed to absorb skincare products more effectively. It is recommended to apply hydrating serums, such as those containing hyaluronic acid, immediately after the treatment to enhance the hydration and rejuvenation effects. While nano-needling is gentle, it is best to avoid strong active ingredients like Retinol or Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) for 24 hours to prevent irritation. Always wear sunscreen during the day, as your skin may be slightly more sensitive to UV exposure after treatment.

How to Use Nano-Needling Pens

Using the Dr. Pen Nano-Needling Pen is simple and can be done safely every week. Follow these steps for optimal results:

  • Step 1: Cleanse – Start by cleansing your skin thoroughly to remove dirt, oil, and makeup.
  • Step 2: Apply Serum – Choose a hydrating serum, such as one with hyaluronic acid, and apply it generously to your face.
  • Step 3: Use the Nano Pen – Gently glide the nano-needling pen over your skin in a cross-hatch pattern (vertical, horizontal, and diagonal motions), covering small areas at a time.
  • Step 4: Post-Treatment – Apply more serum after the treatment to maximize absorption. There is no need for numbing cream, and you can immediately return to your daily activities.

Note: Nano-needling cartridges are single-use and must be discarded after each session. Always use a new sterile cartridge for each treatment to avoid contamination.

Looking to purchase a Microneedling product or cartridge?

As of September 2024, all microneedling cartridges are now prescription-only. Please note that these cartridges are available exclusively to licensed aestheticians or medispa professionals. When purchasing, you will be required to upload documentation as proof of your license and/or prescription. Microneedling can help address acne scarring but should not be performed at home. For more information, please visit the microneedling section of our website.

Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling)

Micro-needling is a process called collagen induction therapy (CIT), a treatment that stimulates the body's own repair mechanism by creating controlled micro-injuries to the epidermis and dermis. By using Dr Pen microneedling pens, you trigger the release of growth factors to promote the production of new collagen and elastin, which is ideal for addressing acne scarring.

Microneedling is most effective in reducing acne scarring. It should only be performed by a licensed aesthetician or in a Medispa setting with a valid prescription.

There have been many studies on the effectiveness of Microneedling. Please have a read here.

After-care

To ensure the proper healing environment, please follow the after-care instructions:

  • Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for at least 7 days post-treatment.
  • Avoid extended periods in the sun and apply an SPF when you leave the house.
  • Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
  • No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

Does microneedling hurt?

There is some pain associated with microneedling, however, using a numbing cream will be extremely helpful. The amount of pain will also depend on the length of the needle used. This will be chosen by your licensed aesthetician or medispa professional.

Downtime

There is no extended downtime, but you may experience redness and flaking for the first day or two after the treatment. Avoid using Dr Pen if you need to attend an event within 48 – 72 hours post-treatment.
